Designing X’s Financial Ecosystem: A UX & Engineering Collaboration

With Musk’s leadership shift at X, the company’s vision expanded into becoming an everything app, unlocking new UX opportunities in integrated payments and financial tools. As the lead designer, I worked closely with engineering, product, and leadership to push the limits of financial UX within a real-time social platform.

Vision Alignment & Technical Feasibility

The new leadership direction emphasized frictionless transactions, instant settlements, and embedded financial tools within X. I collaborated directly with engineering teams and Musk to explore how real-time payments, crypto, and monetization features could be seamlessly integrated. This required deep technical discussions around:

• Decentralized & traditional financial models: Exploring blockchain-based vs. fiat transaction structures.

• Latency & scalability challenges: Ensuring financial transactions didn't disrupt X’s core real-time social experience.

• Security & compliance: Addressing fraud prevention, KYC/AML requirements, and regulatory constraints.

User Research & Competitive Analysis

To define product-market fit, I conducted quantitative and qualitative research across high-engagement users, creators, and businesses. Insights shaped key UX principles:

• Instant, one-click payments integrated into the feed.

• Multi-currency & crypto support for global transactions.

• A financial dashboard enabling real-time earnings & investment tracking.

System Architecture & UX Flow Optimization

Collaborating with engineering, I worked on architecting financial flows that merged with X’s core social interactions, focusing on:

• Transaction threading within conversations (e.g., payments embedded in replies, tips, and subscriptions).

• API-driven financial stack for seamless integration with banks, Stripe, and potential blockchain rails.

• Optimized user onboarding: KYC flows streamlined for speed without breaking engagement.

Prototyping & Engineering Collaboration

I led rapid prototyping & high-fidelity UX iterations, working alongside engineering to refine:
